This customer contacted us to help them with fiber repair in their multi-family complex.
We have worked several tickets very similar to this one for our customer. They have Invisalign fiber installed on the surface of their walls. This was a fiber retrofit method after the apartments had been built. It's a great product for this solution but the downside is if you run the fiber down the baseboard every time a tenant bumps the baseboard with the foot of their bed they can possibly damage the fiber. Students moving in and out and bumping the walls is the main issue with this fiber.
To troubleshoot and fix the fiber is relatively easy. We typically start by attaching our VFL (visual fault indicator) aka laser to the head end of the fiber at the ONT and look for a light terminating from a break. I have included a few pictures of this here as well. Once the break is located it's just a matter of using your fusion splicer to splice on a new piece of fiber and then test again. With years of experience and some very expensive tools, it is relatively easy to repair fiber in multi-family housing.
